Abstract

Interest in the field of oceanography is not sufficiently developed at the undergraduate level. Hence, the numerous new graduate programs in the field will be lacking qualified candidates. An oceanography option for the geology major provides a possible solution. It can be offered with no additional cost to the institution and without increasing the number of semester hours required for the major; however, it has the inconvenience of limiting greatly the choice of elective courses in geology.
