Abstract

An object-oriented (OO) expert system for the operation and the management of power system protective relay is described in this paper. The characteristics of the OO method and the expert systems used in power systems are analyzed at first to show why the OO method is used. Then, the principles of designing and implementing OO method based expert systems for power systems are presented. Following these principles, an object-oriented expert system for power system protective relay operation and management (OOPRES) was developed in a PC/Windows environment with the Borland C++ for windows. It is shown by the OOPRES that the OO method is efficient and flexible for knowledge acquisition, knowledge management and reasoning.
