Abstract
This article describes how a CS2 course can be taught with an object‐orientation. The goal of this orientation is to enhance the usual CS2 emphasis on data abstraction. A rationale for using objects in this way is presented. There is also a description of the course, including a week‐by‐week overview and a division of the material into lecture and laboratory components. The role of a programming language in such a course is analyzed, and the particular language adopted is appraised. Finally, there is a discussion of the relationship of this course to other courses, and the reactions of students to the course over the past few years.
