Abstract

In this paper, a low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCC) optical transceiver for wireless LAN (802.11g) applications is implemented. The transmitter consists of a vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) and laser driver chips while the receiver has photodiode and linear amplifier chips mounted on it. With a hole structure through the LTCC ceramic layers, the fiber can be properly aligned and supported while the light source or photo detector is flip-chipped on the other side of the substrate. Meanwhile, the transmission performance of the LTCC transceiver over a ROF network is evaluated. The measurements show that the LTCC transceiver module can be used for radio-over-fiber applications.
