Abstract

In this paper, the effect of roundoff noise in digital controller is analyzed for a digital feedback control system. An l/sub 1/ norm of the system is defined as the roundoff noise gain to measure the performance degradation due to finite wordlength (FWL) effect. The optimal realization of the controller is obtained via minimizing the l/sub 1/ norm. A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of this new approach.
