In a trial conducted at family-planning clinics based at teaching hospitals in Sweden and Finland, 200 nulliparous women (median age, 21) seeking contraception were randomized to insertion of a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device (IUD) or to a monophasic, combination oral contraceptive (OC) containing estradiol and desogestrel.
