Abstract

Abstract The Israeli system, an environment that most closely parallels the competitive environment in many regions of the United States where there is an oversupply of long-term beds is presented. With a variety of settings from which to choose, and an increasing shift to home and community-based services, the traditional nursing home has evolved into offering “niche” services, seeking applicants for their beds. Social workers are “required to be more business oriented and more involved in marketing” as well as resident oriented. The need for social workers to deal with conflicts of interest which arise and must be resolved are addressed.
