Abstract

Summary A method based on the isoconductivity concept to determine the cation exchange capacity of soils and clays is proposed. Isoconductivity values, determined using a simple conductivity bridge, of six soils and six clay mixtures were correlated significantly (r = 0.97) with the cation exchange capacities determined by the NH4 saturation method and Ca → Mg methods. The method suggested is expedient and involves neither cumbersome chemical procedures nor complex instruments.
