Abstract

Safety monitoring is an important component in early-warning system, and it is crucial to ensure safe operations in various industries. However, the majority of the existing safety monitoring system suffer some limitations, either they cannot cover the whole working area or their intelligence is inadequate to provide effective early warnings. In order to ensure safe operations in smart grid, we propose an IoT assisted early-warning system. The system employs some latest technologies, such as electronic fence, video surveillance, UWB positioning and the SVM model, to achieve real-time accurate positioning of operators. Moreover, it can detect the distance between operators and dangerous areas, and the system can alert the operators when they are approaching the dangerous areas. Our proposed approach helps to make the early warning system more intelligent and more automated, improving safety supervision and providing effective security management for smart grid.
