Abstract

An Invitation to Participate Christopher F. Meindl, Book Review Editor The Southeastern Geographer has always welcomed contributions from scholars at every stage of their careers. Indeed, professional development is given increasing attention these days. Witness the Geography Faculty Development Alliance hosted by the University of Colorado's Department of Geography. In this edition of the Southeastern Geographer we feature reviews of three books intended to assist budding geographers in their scholarly development. Moreover, the reviews are written by graduate students. This is by design because we want to emphasize that scholars of every level of experience are welcome to participate in the intellectual life of the journal. To be sure, we must maintain standards-but there is nothing magic about contributing manuscripts or book reviews for possible publication in the Southeastern Geographer. We are trying to publish reviews of many different kinds of books, from those that focus on some aspect of (or place in) the South, to works that contribute to ongoing theoretical debates in both physical and human geography; and from those that cope with technical issues of interest to geographers, to books addressing matters of professional development (such as those reviewed in this issue). If you would like to write a book review for possible publication in the Southeastern Geographer, send an e-mail to cmeindl@stpt.usf.edu and suggest a title you are eager and "qualified" to review. There are no official qualifications, but you should be familiar with at least some of the literature associated with your title of interest. We can not promise when or even if we will be able to publish a review you offer to write-but we can promise to take your offer seriously and try to make an opportunity available to you.
