Abstract
In this essay, I explore the contradiction between the call for increased researcher reflexivity amid allegations of bias when Black researchers (or other scholars of color) investigate race. My purpose is twofold: (a) to advance a position regarding the possible existence of a double (more stringent) standard being applied by communication journal reviewers to race‐related, qualitative research, especially when scholars of color conduct such research and (b) to invite a conversation among communication scholars regarding the publication experiences of those investigating race and whether such research is viewed as legitimate knowledge within the discipline.
