Abstract

Manufacturing organisations are implementing a number of scrap reduction (SR) techniques in their organisations for the purpose of making improvements in the processes. Some of such techniques are lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, total quality management, etc. In many cases the implementation of SR technique is found successful, whereas at the same time in many cases it found to be a failure one as well. There are a certain number of factors which are found to be responsible for the failure of SR. Present study concentrates towards the identification of critical failure factors contributing towards the failure of implementation of SR techniques in the manufacturing organisations. Total failure mode and effects analysis (TFMEA) and FMEA has also been done on the identified critical failure factors of SR techniques.
