Abstract

A new 2D cadmium(II) coordination polymer (CP) formulated as [Cd(NCS)(L)(EtOH)2]n (1) [L = isonicotinic acid] was prepared by the branch tube method and the sonochemical method was applied to prepare submicro and micro structures of CP 1 under various conditions (different solvents and times). The sonochemical products were characterized by elemental analysis, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FT-IR, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results of a single crystal X-ray analysis of compound 1 show that Cd2+ ion is 6-coordinated, isonicotinato and thiocyanato both act as bidentate ligands, and the coordination sphere of the metal ion is octahedrally distorted. The effects of solvents and reaction time on the morphology and size of the sonochemical products were studied, and the results indicate that an increase in time leads to a decrease in the size of the submicro and micro-structures while a change in the solvent has almost no effects on their sizes.
