Abstract

Cu-Ni-Sn alloys with varying nickel wt% were melted in an electric furnace under argon atmosphere and were cast into metal mould. The specimens were solutionised at 825°C for 10 hrs and were aged at 250, 300, 350, 400 and 450°C for 1 to 5 hrs. The peak hardness was determined for different ageing temperatures and wear rate, coefficient of friction, ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and percentage elongation were determined with respect to the peak hardness. Peak hardness was found to be increasing with increase in nickel addition, wear rate decreased with increase in peak hardness, the coefficient of friction was found to be independent of hardness, ultimate tensile strength and yield strength was found to be increasing with increase in nickel content and percentage elongation decreased with increase in nickel content.
