Abstract

Several mixtures of SN 500 and polyisobutene in which the weight percentages of polyisobutene varied from 0 to 20 were made. The important lubrication properties of the recent blends were then followed by standard methods. The results indicate systematic increase in viscosities at 40 and 100°C, as well as viscosity index, flash point, and specific gravity. In the case of pour point, sulfur content, color, and total acid number the reverse trend was observed. The lubrication properties of 83:17 showed good accordance with corresponding properties due to Bright stock 150. In addition the mixture showed the advantages of lower sulfur content as well as higher viscosity index and aniline point. Equalization of gear oil Esso GX from Esso Company and hydraulic oil Shell Tellus T32 from Shell Company by 83:17 mixture was successful.
