Abstract

Green home’s concept has just set its foot in Malaysia in year 2007. Green homes are homes that are constructed in a way it is environmentally friendly and sustainable. However, the green homes concept is still a new trend in Malaysia and very much unfamiliar among the Malaysian citizens. Among the problems are the public is still not aware of the differences between a conventional home and a green home and how it affects the environment differently. Thus, this research aims to enhance the public’s awareness on green housing by developing an interactive website to illustrate the differences between the conventional homes and green homes and its impact on the environment, and demonstrate the types of green alternatives available in Malaysia in order to construct the green homes. The ultimate goal is to take the developed website as a tool to investigate the level of public’s awareness on the concept of the green housing in Malaysia. A questionnaire survey was conducted to determine the level of public awareness before and after visiting the website. A hundred respondents who are interested in green home’s concept was randomly selected for the survey. Findings of the research showed that the interactive website approach is effective in enhancing the public’s awareness on green housing.
