Abstract

The temperature dependence of the threshold energy for atom displacement in copper has been determined by observing the formation of interstitial clusters as a function of electron energy and irradiation temperature in a high-voltage electron microscope. The threshold energy is found to be 17.5 eV at 70 K and decreases continuously to 10.5 eV at 550 K.
