Abstract

During the social revolution of the past decade, there has been increased interest by the Negro community in racial names. The emphasis upon new textbooks for self-concept enhancement indicates a need to select terms which will facilitate this goal. Further, professionals in the mental health fields, psychologists, educators, counselors, and children of other races may not know which terms are most acceptable to Negro children. The use of iterms which have negative connotations might convey unintentional feelings of prejudice and could negate any hoped for success in these areas.
