Abstract
The medical record administration profession in Australia has assumed additional and more varied managerial responsibilities following changes in the health industry during the 1980s. A nationwide study of the profession ascertained the nature and extent of these responsibilities and their implications for undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum planning. The study found that medical record administrators have a wide employment base and substantial managerial responsibility. It highlights the increasing range and diversity of general and profession-specific managerial responsibilities held by medical record administrators in Australia. (AMRJ, 1990, 20(4), 144–151).
