An investigation of Taguchi methods for flight test optimization

Abstract

The paper investigates the application of the Taguchi fractional factorial test design method to two types of flight testing. After a brief description of the full and fractional factorial methods, the paper investigates application of the Taguchi method to performance verification and comparison flight testing. It is found that applicability is very limited with the verification process but can be used with comparison testing to reduce the number of flight tests.
