Abstract

At present widespread use is being made of co-current valve trays in the improvement of existing and the design~of new distillation columns [i]. These trays operate at higher gas and liquid loadings than the existing classical types of trays, However, the transport effect which is characteristic of these trays leads to an accumulation of liquid above the overflow device and to the high degree of entrainment which is related to this [2], and~ consequently, to a reduction in the tray efficiency. The use of baffle elements ~impingement plates) on co-current valve trays improves the hydrodynamic structure of the flow and the phase separation [2, 3].
