Abstract
This study investigates the developmental progression of the acquisition of skills necessary for correct responses to various types of left-right identification tasks. The types of identification tasks which are considered in this study differ in terms of whether a midline body cross is required in the identification task and whether there is a reversal in the left-right orientation of the object being identified. A pairwise assessment of these various identification tasks is used to explore the nature of both “prerequisite” and “transference” relations that may exist among them.
