Abstract

The natural chemicals from the extract of semi-ripe arecanut husk were isolated and tested as an eco-friendly inhibitor for aluminum (Al-63400) corrosion in an acid (HCl) medium using mass loss (in the temperature range 303–323 K), electrochemical Tafel (at 303 K) and impedance (at 303 K) techniques. The mass loss experiment reveals that inhibition action depends on plant extract concentration, temperature and duration of the analysis. Tafel curves hinted the mixed role of the natural extract. The Nyquist curve showed that Al dissolution in hydrochloric medium is significantly controlled via the charge transfer phenomenon.
