Abstract

In this article, a major trunk road to the commercial city of Lagos is investigated. The black spots along the road (Lagos-Ibadan Expressway) are identified. The rate of accidents over time along the road, accident categorisation by vehicle type, and the spatial distribution of black spots are evaluated. From the primary and secondary data collected, 12 locations were identified as black spots. Private cars had the highest number of accidents while human factors are identified as a major cause of accidents on the route studied.
