Abstract

Records of isometric tension have been obtained from the anterior belly of the digastric muscle during stimulation of its nerve in anaesthetized rats. Neither the relationship between stimulus strength and peak tetanic tension nor the time-course of relaxation after a tetanus showed evidence of there being slow-graded fibres in this muscle. The overall response of the digastric was that of a very fast muscle.
