Abstract
The success of an athletic team depends to a great extent on the quality of the leadership and coaching skills of the coach. Coaches, practitioners and sport psychologists have shown great interest in investigating effective approaches of successful coaches. In competitive sport areas, researchers want to determine the relationship between coaching approaches and peak performance. The purpose of the current study was two-fold: i) to investigate successful coaching approaches of a world-class soccer coach; and ii) to discuss how current research findings may be helpful to sport coaches.

Summary
Studying successful world-class coaches’ experiences could be fruitful for other coaches to learn from. Bennie [4], using cross-case analysis of three Australian sport teams, concluded that effective coaching involves the use of key social skills, personal characteristics and organizational expertise. Côté and his colleagues have provided a coaching model to represent the important components related to the coaching process and development of elite athletes. In 33 years of college coaching, he has amassed a career winning percentage over 93% and has led his institution to 21 national championships His accomplishments include coaching the United States women’s national team and serving on the USA Soccer Hall of Fame Board of Directors. This commentary will focus on a few of the key points relayed by these authors
