Abstract

Objective To investigate nurses ' organizational commitment and describe influenced factors in order to provide suggestions for hospital administers. Methods Questionnaire surveys were conducted among 178 ward nurses. Results The whole score of organizational commitment was at more than medium level, while nearly half of nurses could be working for a different hospital if the job was similar. Single factor analysis showed that age, working life, department, degree of matching with expectation, satisfaction to salary, role conflict and role ambiguity were all influence factors of organizational commitment. Further multivariate analysis showed that role conflict, role ambiguity, degree of matching with expectation, satisfaction to salary, department were the five important factors. Conclusions Nurses' organizational commitment were good. Hospital and nursing administers were suggested to consider role cognition factors and some personal characteristics when train or strengthen nurses' organizational commitment.
