Abstract
IT has been suggested by Burton et al. that fluorescin, a yellow-green fluorescent bacterial pigment, is related to respiratory enzymes. Observations from this laboratory on the control of cytochrome c production in Pseudomonas fluorescens2–4 are in general accord with Burton's hypothesis, and suggest that fluorescin is an alternative product of porphyrin metabolism.
