Abstract
This chapter draws from Campbell’s experiences working as an archival researcher at Library and Archives Canada (LAC) to propose a new approach to archival work that is rooted in Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ). Campbell and Bishop-Stall use several tenants of IQ to guide their approach, such as Aajiiqatigiinniq—decision-making through discussion and consensus; Nuuqatigiitsiarniq—respecting others and relationships and caring for people; and Qanuqtuurniq—being innovative and resourceful. They argue that concrete action must be taken to integrate Inuit—and Indigenous people—into the archival system, particularly in agential and permanent positions, and reform archival work to foreground adaptability, innovation, respect and deference to Indigenous knowledge.
