An introduction to limit state analysis of reinforced concrete beams and slabs

Abstract

The object of this paper is to introduce the concept of multiple limit states and their application to the analysis of reinforced concrete beams and slabs. Some indication is given of the format of the proposed unified code, most of which is now in draft form. It must be emphasized that the data included in this paper does not necessarily comply with the recommendations given in the draft unified code. The paper concludes with two detailed numerical examples illustrating the application of multiple limit states to the analysis of a reinforced concrete beam and slab systems. British and S.I. units are used for the numerical work.
