Outlines considerations for researchers, corporate sustainable purchasing officers, and others wishing to compare and evaluate certification systems and their outcomes. Highlights emerging topics and challenges faced by certification systems, including climate change, protection of intact forest landscapes, and indigenous peoples' rights to Free Prior Informed Consent (FPIC). Considers the potentials and limitations of certification systems and their evolving role in responsible forest management, ecosystem conservation, and sustainable business practices.
