Abstract
Abstract This article provides a brief overview of the emergence of art-based health research and describes a pan-Canadian study exploring the experience of researchers, artists and trainees engaged in this work. Research participants are described and specific research projects explicating the array of art-based knowledge creation and translation practices are outlined as exemplars of this work. In order to highlight the diversity of art-based research, four unique projects are presented, which exemplify the art genres represented in the study: performative, literary, visual and multi-media.
