Abstract

We report the occurrence of the hydrogen-bond donor molecule 1,1′-binaphthyl-2,2′-diol (BINOL) that in the presence of the appreciably strong hydrogen-bond acceptor phenazine forms a cocrystal stabilized by weak OH···π(arene) interactions. We also present a survey of the Cambridge Structural Database involving BINOL that reveals a limited number of structures that demonstrate the presence of a hydrogen-bond acceptor group viz-a-viz phenazine that does not participate in a traditional hydrogen bond with BINOL.
