Abstract

Virtualization technology in cloud environment is characterized by the property of sharing system resources among multiple operating systems. It also maintains isolation between the virtual machines. In virtualized environment, network intensive applications such as web services or databases are being consolidated onto a single host. In these applications, an efficient communication between virtual machines (VMs) is required. Isolation is very important for security reasons but, it increases inter-VM communication overheads. This paper proposes a protocol for efficient and transparent inter-VM communication. It optimizes the inter-VM communication between co-located VMs. It provides synchronization and support for live migration of communicating VMs.
