Abstract

Background: Stigma and lack of social and parental support during adolescence can have life-long effects on health and well-being for adolescents. Adolescents with disorders/differences of sex development (DSD) may experience amplified effects. Further, such patients face numerous increased social and health. Studies of patients with DSD indicate theye experience adverse pscyhosocial outcomes similar to LGB and gender non-conforming populations (i.e. increased depressive symptoms, anxiety, self-harming behaviors, and substance abuse).
