Abstract

cardiac monitoring services to the General Internal Medicine (GIM) patients of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. This is a change from our previous model of care where these patients were located within Schulich Heart Centre. The Remote Telemetry Program covers 4 GIM units with 16 telemetry channels. A dedicated RN monitors these patients via a central monitor situated at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Over the years we have seen the benefits of remote telemetry monitoring that also includes achieving lower wait times, improving quality of care, promoting collaboration and communication between services and disciplines, and increasing the availability of cardiac telemetry service at Sunnybrook. Currently we are expanding our cardiac monitoring services to medical radiation oncology and orthopaedic patients. This presentation includes rationale for implementation, an overview of policy and procedures as well as evaluation summary of the remote telemetry program.
