Research Article| March 01 2011 An “Internationalism of the Planted Earth”:The Literary Origins of Bessie Head's Idea of the Village Eleni Coundouriotis Eleni Coundouriotis University of Connecticut Eleni Coundouriotis is an associate professor of English and the associate director of the Human Rights Institute at the University of Connecticut. She is currently completing a book on the war novel in Africa entitled The People's Right to the Novel. Her earlier work includes Claiming History: Colonialism, Ethnography and the Novel (1999) and numerous articles on African fiction, European realism, and human rights.
