Abstract
A 20-year-old Caucasian female patient attended Newcastle Dental Hospital Radiology Department for a cone beam CT scan for implant planning. At post-scan viewing, an unusual streaking was observed on the images (Figure 1). Figure 1 Axial section through the maxilla showing the unusual streak artefacts At first we were unsure as to the cause of this artefact, but fortunately we were able to question the patient and it became apparent that she had hair extensions. On looking at the scout images, it became clear that the clips attaching the extensions to her natural hair were the cause of the unusual streak artefacts, and we would just like to draw attention to this interesting finding through this letter. I would be interested to know if others have had experiences of similar or other unusual artefacts related to beauty accessories.
