Abstract

An estimated 23% of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have limited health literacy,1 defined as “the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions.”2 Limited health literacy in patients with CKD is associated with cardiovascular disease, fewer transplant referrals, and increased mortality.1,3-5 CKD-specific patient knowledge is an important patient-centered outcome measure.
