Abstract

Twenty-four young children classified by the speech pathologist as having communication difficulties were enrolled in a summer vacation language development programme extending over four weeks. The programme utilizing in part the Brake readiness kit, was administered under the guidance and direction of the speech pathologist. A battery of tests including Draw-a-Man, Perceptual forms, tapped patterns, auditory discrimination and sentence development, was administered on a pre test, post test and three months delayed test schedule. Results were analysed to ascertain mean differences between pre test–post test and pre test–delayed test. Many significant results were obtained in the pre/post analysis and contrary to the findings of some research studies, these gains were generally sustained over the three month period.
