Abstract

Abstract There are currently a large number of available modelling tools each offering an alternative approach to building a model and representing the working of the model once built. Most of the existing methods, however, fall well short on providing effective user-system interaction capabilities with respect to the requirements of system modelling in flexible manufacturing. The purpose of this paper is to introduce to the reader an intelligent user interface in a knowledge-based modelling system for flexible manufacturing facilities. The requirements for the user interface of a manufacturing system modelling tool are discussed. This is followed by a description of the overall structure and each of the components of the researched user interface.
