Abstract

The design and construction of an intelligent traffic light control system is presented in this work. The system controls traffic lights based on the density of traffic on each side of the intersection. Infrared sensors and Cameras, combined with an image processing algorithms were used to detect traffic density. Red-light runners were detected using a metal detector as a trigger, and images of offenders are captured. A scaled-down model of a traffic intersection is used to demonstrate the efficiency of the system. Results are comparable to what obtains in the literature.
