Abstract

In a reliable power system one of the most important requirements is to maintain the voltage at consumer premises within permissible ranges to ensure high quality of customer service. Since the voltage profile is consistently varied by load fluctuations hence it should be controlled by voltage regulators. Voltage stability and power quality of electrical systems depend on the proper voltage regulation. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based voltage regulation in distribution systems. The voltage regulation is accomplished by a real time fuzzy based intelligent controller which governs the tap changing of the transformer. In this paper the tap changing decision of the transformer depends on the monitoring of three variables i.e. real power, power factor and voltage deviation at the secondary bus. The voltage stability is checked by calculating an (L) index at the buses. The proposed technique is highly useful to improve the voltage stability of power system. The validity of the technique is tested on a sample 6 bus system using software simulation. This method can be applying both for off-line as well as on-line applications.
