Abstract

This paper focuses on the development of maximum wind power extraction algorithms for variable speed wind power generation systems. A review of different maximum wind power extraction algorithms is presented in this paper, based on which an intelligent maximum power extraction algorithm is developed to improve the system performance and to facilitate the control implementation. As an integral part of the maximum power extraction algorithm, power signal feedback (PSF) method has been developed. Lookup table is used to record the maximum power data with respect to the controlled error signal of angular rotor speed. The field oriented control (FOC) algorithm is used to compensate the variation of voltages and power. The proposed control approach is performed and validated in MATLAB / Simulink. This paper aims to find out dynamic performance of DFIG wind turbine under the step changed wind speed. Simulation results on a 1.5 MW DFIG system are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy during variations of wind speed.
