Abstract

This paper presents the results of an investigation of an intelligent CAI system for teaching mathematical concepts. Classification of behaviour is used to achieve the desired goal. Two cognitive processes at the level of the concept‐learning task are involved; discrimination and generalization. An adaptive instructional strategy uses on‐task information (diagnostic data) to select the appropriate teaching rule in a concept‐learning task.
