Abstract

In order to accomplish flexible service offering and to couple heterogeneous wireless access networks with evolved core networks, an intelligent base station (IBS) architecture is proposed in this paper. The intelligence lies in threefold. The first is that available spectrum can be sensed by individual IBS or collaborated IBS, enabling dynamic resource allocation among BS, RS and MH. The second is that service/application requirements can be recognized by IBS, supporting QoS and security. The third is that IBS is capable of self-configuration and reconfiguration according to context and policy. The structure of IBS is composed of three blocks: the optimized transmission block, the service oriented block, and the intelligent decision block. Each block performs some certain intelligence. IBS could be deployed in any type of new generation wireless heterogeneous networks.
