Abstract

The mission of the GICR-IACPR (Gruppo Italiano di Cardiologia Riabilitativa e Preventiva—Italian Association for Cardiovascular Prevention, Rehabilitation and Epidemiology) is to promote excellence in research, education, and the organization of preventative and rehabilitative cardiovascular programs. On 2001, the GICR-IACPR Board, in an attempt to address the need to identify the essential characteristics of psychological interventions in cardiac rehabilitation programs based on scientific evidence, created a Psychology Working Group (PWG) with the task of identifying state of the art of psychological interventions in cardiac rehabilitation, based upon their efficacy and effectiveness. The first step was to formulate specific Guidelines for Psychological Interventions in Italian Cardiac Rehabilitation, which were published in 2003.
