Abstract

ABSTRACT International entrepreneurship is an emerging research area. It seems to be divided into two main research streams: a traditional area of SME internationalisation and an emerging area of international start-ups. Our study attempts to integrate the two streams by proposing an integrative conceptual model of international entrepreneurship. The model is built around the concept of internationalisation that consists of internationalisation properties (time and mode) and internationalisation performance. Other building blocks of the model are internationalisation antecedents (environmental conditions and organisational characteristics) and internationalisation consequences (organisational performance). A set of propositions about relationships in the conceptual model is developed and implications are proposed.
