Abstract
In this paper, we propose a new integrated scheme for authentication and access control that uses smart cards to meet unique requirements in a digital TV environment. Our scheme executes a 3-tier process: 1) user authentication, 2) mutual authentication between smart card and set-top box, and 3) mutual authentication and access control between smart card and remote server. It withstands well-known security attacks and exhibits many good features.
