Abstract

An integrated optical waveguide E-field sensor with segmental electrodes using a proton-exchanged LiNbO/sub 3/ Mach-Zehnder (M-Z) interferometer has been designed and fabricated. The device consists of ten sections of electrode and its structure size is 60/spl times/6/spl times/0.5 mm. Experimental results show that the minimum detectable electric field is 60 mV/m with the bandwidth of 10 MHz to 3.6 GHz in the detecting condition for optical power, which has a signal-to-noise ratio of 5 dB.
